Online School Meals Case

The
Solution
At present most authorities use primary school
administration staff to collect money from parents or pupils.
Most LEA's have tried implementing cashless systems to move
away from the rigidity of the current operation. However,
the capital cost is prohibitive as are the ongoing maintenance
and training of these systems.
The pilot system will feature standard menu's and we will
then build in additional menu items that may be related to
individual schools such as, meal boxes for extra curricular
activities, ethnic menu's at school's in areas of high ethnic
diversity, evening meals for after school clubs or additional
lunch items.
Parents register on the site, select the school their child
attends, create an account for each child and then families
can search for favourite meal items and order by day, week,
month or term. Payment is made by credit/debit card.
Families entitled to free school meals will receive the £1.30
daily allowance directly into the online account and will
be able to make the same choice as other parents. They will
also have the option of adding funds to the account for additional
purchases if required.

Commenting Sue Eakers, DSU Group Manager said:
"Just-Ask helped me to create this concept and it's
great to see it working. The delivery of school meals
has been stuck in the dark ages with no means of communicating
vital information to parents and offering families a
choice. Hopefully we have created a system that brings
the delivery of our service into this century!" "The
system allows parents to select the days when they want
to use the service and offers the option of additional
sales items, such as fruit, extra drinks etc. Now, parent's
feel they are being treated as customers and we hope
the response will be positive and will help us to improve
the service we provide."

The Savings
Sue Eakers: "The current operation is very reliant
upon the school secretaries and is cash based. Not only is
this very time consuming but it is also a security hazard.
Just-Ask will allow us to provide a much more efficient service
and reduce the burden on all staff as well as generating additional
income in return for an improved service."
The system will reduce the administration time by allowing
parent's to pay online, delivering orders to the school automatically
and automating the delivery and allocation of free school
meals.
